What Impressions Measure
An impression is a recorded ad render. Paired with clicks it gives you CTR, and CTR is what separates a creative problem from a traffic problem.

Search, email and direct link placements produce no impressions. An empty report on those campaigns is expected, not a fault.
Recording Impressions
Impressions are recorded through an impression URL — a tracking pixel loaded when the creative renders. It is generated alongside the click URL in the campaign's tracking URL builder, under URL Options → Impression URL.
The affiliate places it on the ad unit. If they do not, no impressions are recorded and this report stays empty.
Nothing stops a placement firing the pixel repeatedly without ever rendering an ad. Treat impression volume as a quality signal to sanity-check, not as something to pay against, unless you have a CPM deal with agreed verification.
Metric Reference
| Metric | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Impressions | Total ad renders recorded. |
| Unique impressions | Deduplicated by visitor. The gap against total impressions is frequency. |
| Viewable impressions | Those that met the viewability threshold. |
| Viewability rate | Viewable as a share of total. Below about 50% is a placement problem. |
| Clicks | Clicks recorded on the same placement. |
| CTR | Clicks divided by impressions. |
Viewability
An impression can be served and never seen — rendered below the fold, in a background tab, or in a slot the user scrolled past too fast. Viewability separates "delivered" from "had a chance to work".
A low viewability rate with a healthy CTR on the viewable portion means the creative is fine and the placement is not. That is a conversation with the affiliate about inventory, not about the ad.
Using the Numbers
| Pattern | Likely meaning |
|---|---|
| High impressions, very low CTR | Wrong audience, or a creative that does not fit the placement. |
| Low viewability, low CTR | Placement quality. The ad is not being seen at all. |
| High CTR, no conversions | Misleading creative, or a landing page that fails to deliver on it. |
| Impressions with almost no clicks | Worth checking for pixel inflation before drawing creative conclusions. |
| CTR decaying over time | Creative fatigue. Refresh the assets — see Creatives. |
Pass {creativeid} in the impression and click URLs to break these numbers down per asset. Without it, every creative on the campaign reports as one block.
