How Lead Validation Works
When the advertiser posts back a lead, the tracker checks the contact details sent with it before the conversion is approved. A lead that fails is rejected or held as pending, according to your setting, so the affiliate is not paid for it and no affiliate postback fires for an approved lead.
Lead validation runs alongside the other lead-generation checks on the same card — the deduplication window and the quality threshold.
Turning It On
Open the campaign
Go to the campaign's Basic Info tab. The Lead Generation Settings card appears when the campaign's vertical is Lead Generation.
Choose the checks
Under Lead Validation, pick an email check, a phone check and whether to block disposable email addresses.
Choose what happens to a failed lead
Reject the conversion (default) or Hold as pending for review so you can approve it by hand.
Update the advertiser's postback and save
The advertiser must send the email and phone with the lead — see below.
The Checks
| Setting | Options |
|---|---|
| Email Validation | Off · Format only — the address is well formed · Format + mail server (MX) — also rejects domains that cannot receive email. Hashed emails pass. |
| Block disposable email addresses | Rejects throw-away addresses such as Mailinator, Guerrilla Mail, YOPmail and 10-minute mail. |
| Phone Validation | Off · Valid number · Valid number in the click's country — a UK click with a US phone number fails. Numbers without a + prefix are read in the click's country. |
| Invalid Lead Action | Reject the conversion, or hold it as pending for review. |
Advertiser Postback
Ask the advertiser to add the lead's contact details to their postback:
&email={email}&phone={phone} While a check is on, a lead that arrives without an email (or phone) is held as pending for review, whatever the Invalid Lead Action says. Turn the check on only once the advertiser sends the field.
Seeing the Result
Failed leads appear in the Conversions report as Rejected or Pending. Trace one in Click Lookup to see the exact reason, for example:
- The lead's email address is not valid.
- The lead used a disposable (throw-away) email address.
- The lead's email domain cannot receive mail (no mail server).
- The lead's phone number is not a valid number.
- The lead's phone number belongs to a different country than the click.
- The same lead already converted inside the dedup window.
- The lead scored below the campaign's quality threshold.
